so I have a question and I am hoping at least one of you can answer it.

WTF is up with the naga people?

(If you don't know what I'm talking about - well, this question probably wasn't aimed at you in the first place, but I'll tell you anyway!

I'm talking about those drawings of snakey people. Also a mythological entity but that's a different subject.)

Seriously. I don't get it. I see them all over y!gallery and DA and now I just have to ask wtf is up with the naga boys. Is it that the artists don't know how to draw legs and can't be arsed to learn, or is there some obscure snake-body fetish in the yaoi community of which I am somehow not aware?

Maybe it's because having a giant snake tail is like having a giant penis for legs? Hell if I know, I like all my myths equally.

Yaoi is confusing to me. I mean, if people want to get into it, okay. My problem with it is the complete absence of evidence the characters are gay. I don't like pairings that hold no water and the majority of characters are either portrayed as blatantly heterosexual or disinterested.

I think it's even creepier how much child yaoi there is. o.o

It's sorta like some people's fascination with centaurs, really. some people like them, think they're awesome, others fetishize them. I dun understand it either, but I've also seen some artists do neat things with nagas. I can't argue awesome when it happens.

Of course it helps I actually LIKE snakes too, so that may have something to do with it too where others are concerned?

It's not really unique to the yaoi community unless they have a special association of the tail with a phallus which I certainly hope isn't the case. Mostly because I don't want to think of a giant penis for legs that has to shed it's skin annually and some of them are incredibly rough on the flesh because that's disgusting.

I think it's a form of exoticism, being a snake and moving around is completely different then having legs and moving around so that alien nature gives them a strange and mysterious air, like vampire mormons.
